28-year-old Colombian Katherine Montoya, who plays today in the Spanish Zaaf Team with her compatriot Erika Botero, won the 2022 José Ignacio Urdariz Memorial Flying Goals Trophy this Thursday.

Colombian cycling in the women's sector continues to take sure steps towards a better present and future. Although in Colombia there are few competitions for female cyclists, this is where new talents are successfully seen abroad.

Cases like that of the runner Laura Lozano, who opened space in the old continent a few years ago showing her ability to be with the best cyclists around the world and in the most important races of the women's calendar, show that although at a slow pace, they are increasingly turning to coffee quarries to take them pedaling to other latitudes.

It can also be noted that today runners such as Diana Peñuela and Paula Patiño are currently the cyclists with the best image abroad, while they belong to important teams such as the Movistar team of Spain where runners such as Nairo Quintana, Winner Anacona, Miguel Ángel López and now Iván Sosa and Einer Rubio I have played.

Katherine left the name of her Barcelona team high and at the same time the flag of Colombia, because although coffee farmers are not yet fully recognized as great sprinters despite the presence of riders of the caliber of Fernando Gaviria and Álvaro Hodeg among the world elite, what stands out most among Colombian cyclists are the climbers.

The Memorial where Montoya won the flying goals held its second edition with a total of 39 cyclists registered and on two tracks of 36 and 37 km each for the different categories: Junior, Sub 23 and Elite.

The podium in the junior category was led by Laura Ruíz of the Rio Miera Meruela Cantabria team, while in the under-23 category, Naia Amondarín of the Sopela women's team. As for the Elite, Isabel Martín del Rio Miera Cantabria raised her arms with a time of 2 hours 31 minutes and 46 seconds.

Katherine Montoya entered the last box, 18th place, after making a great run by scoring her main rivals all day to get the points needed through flying goals.

The Colombian expressed her great joy on social networks at her podium saying: “And in the meantime, I... I continue with my flying goals... 😁😁😁 Jose Ignacio Urdaniz Memorial”. He also took the opportunity to thank his team and sponsors.

The 2022 women's cycling calendar will run more smoothly than in previous years, where competitions have been repeatedly affected by the pandemic and the cancellation of sporting events in some countries in Europe and Asia, in particular, so it will be more likely that women cyclists will stand out this season.
